studystudy TEA studystudy QUAIL studystudy RAIN studystudystudy

Soooooo… Today can be summarized as Study, Quail, Rain, OMG I'm in Britain and I've barely talked to ANYONE who lives over here.
Yup. Thats it. Go away. Nothing more here. Boring day.

Fine. FINE!

First of all, nothing rejuvenates your love (or at least ambivalence towards with mild interest in other things) of running like having a beautiful 15th century English university building to run next to. That got me out of bed, if nothing else today. Yay scenery!
We have an exam tomorrow, so after a short lecture, we all spent the great majority of the day studying everything we have learned (supposedly) in the last three days. This consists of going over Chapters 1 and 2 (not in great detail), 7, 8, 9, 15, and 20. Needless to say, its a lot of material. If I had never encountered any of this before, both in class and in the textbook I spent the summer reading, I would be swamped and stressed out of my mind. Fortunately, I'm only mildly stressed and though I haven't really been out in the town in the past 3 days, I wouldn't say I am completely swamped. We'll see how I'm feeling tomorrow.

I seem to be trying a great deal of food I am not generally used to eating during this trip. We had quail at lunch today and I couldn't quite figure out how I felt about it. After eating fish, lamb, and a strange roasted cheese yesterday, I was still slightly suspicious. The first thing out of my mouth when I saw it was the observation that the quail is the California state bird, which made things more weird, and then I subconsciously started trying to decide whether it was ethical to eat it. I think I came down in favor of it because I tasted it and decided it was actually quite good, if I could get over my suspicions and I ended up having a tasty though psychologically trying lunch. Hmm. If things keep up at this rate, who knows what I'll be eating when I get home!
Although I can't really go on eating like this- everything is so rich and there is so much of it. I thought we were in Europe! Isn't this an American thing?

After a really long afternoon of studying, we had a beautiful thunderstorm pass through. We got thunder, lightning, rain ranging from pitter patter to shhhhhh (thats supposed to be a constant, medium rain for those of you who don't understand my strange scale), and sun, all within 10 minutes. The sky was very dramatic, but you don't get to see it because I was busy sticking my body halfway out the window to look at it (who decided to put up screens in windows at home? Yes, I know, bugs are kind of an issue, but still!). Its supposed to rain again later this week, so I'll take a picture of it for you then.

Hopefully I'll also be able to get back out to the marketplace this week. I feel like I haven't gotten to talk to anyone who actually lives here because we're so focused in the program and everyone around us at the college is coming from a different country. The only time I was able to interact with the people of England was at that market. Everyone was really friendly and willing to talk, and granted, they were probably making a good business decision by talking to us, but still!

Because I didn't put up any pictures yesterday and I didn't take any pictures today, I'll just put up some photos I took a while ago but haven't yet put up and that you might like to see about now or in the future etc. :) See ya later! Wish me luck on my test!

Walking around
It's a street. It's pretty.
Courtyard in Queen's college. By the way- only Fellows can walk on the University grass here. No wonder it's so green.

  1. Now that you're expanding your palate, I'm chuckling at all the foods you've tried and might end up liking that your brother would now reject! ;-)

  2. I'd wish you good luck on your test, but due to time differences, you've already taken it, and I doubt you need luck, anyway!
